Database Requirements
If using the Research Database or Security Pack tier of ASTRA, it is necessary to install a database for the storage of experiment data. Ideally, this will be a networked database that is backed up independently by the IT department. ASTRA supports the following databases:
- Microsoft SQL Server, version 7 and higher (SQL Server 2005 Recommended).
When using the database features in a networked environment, certain infrastructure must be present:
- The database server must be accessible to the PC via the network.
- A domain controller suitable for authenticating users on behalf of the database and ASTRA must be present and properly configured
- A valid database user account and password or Windows Authentication configuration must be created for the database. The user account must have privileges to create, delete, and modify tables in the database.
Additionally, adequate database storage is required. Each experiment run with ASTRA will occupy on average about 0.5 MB of storage, so database size should be based on estimated number of experiments to be saved.
